Where can you go on the Around the World Embassy Tour in Washington DC?
Mike StunsonThis Saturday in Washington DC offers a rare chance to travel the world without ever leaving the city.
Dozens of embassies across DC will welcome visitors inside on Saturday for the annual Around the World Embassy Tour, offering a rare chance to step inside typically off-limits buildings, experience different cultures and sample food, music and traditions from across the globe.
Here’s what to know about this year’s event, including which countries are participating and how to plan your visit.
What is the Around the World Embassy Tour?
For one day only, people will be allowed to visit participating embassies to "experience the food, art, dance, fashion and music of different countries," according to Events DC, which organizes the tour.
Admission is free, but reservations are recommended. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 2.
Events DC encourages visitors to download their app to view the list of activities each embassy will offer. There will also be "information hubs" at Dupont Circle and the UDC Community College student center, with maps and souvenir passports also available at both locations.
Dupont Circle and the community college will also feature live performances featuring cultural dances from Bolivia, Indonesia, Nepal and The Gambia. Kids can also join in on the fun with a dedicated Kids Zone at Dupont Circle.
Events DC said Singapore, Azerbaijan, Thailand, Ethiopia, Oman, Peru, Sri Lanka and Lebanon will each feature America 250-themed experiences.
