Even as work continues on Donald Trump’s ballroom and planned new East Wing, the president is already envisioning his next White House addition.

Trump is now planning to add a helipad to the White House, according to multiple reports.

The addition would be the latest in a series of makeovers Trump has implemented in the White House. In addition to the new East Wing, Trump has also paved the iconic Rose Garden, added gold accents throughout the building's interior and installed new, much larger flagpoles outside.

Here's what to know about the possible new addition and why Trump wants it.

Why does the White House need a helipad?

The Marine One helicopters currently land on small planks placed on the White House grass, but CNN reports the high-velocity exhaust heat from the new VH-92A helicopters have "scorched the grass."

Because of this, the model has not been used at the White House in years.

The fleet of 23 VH-92A's were believed to cost an estimated $4.95 billion, but Trump and former President Joe Biden have used older models as their helicopter transportation to and from the White House.

A helipad, according to The Wall Street Journal, would prevent the new helicopters from damaging the grass.

Where would the White House helipad be?

The Washington Post says a helipad could be installed on the South Lawn of the White House as early as this summer.

However, not everyone is a fan of the addition. In an interview with the Post, retired Col. Ray L’Heureux, who oversaw Marine One missions, called it "stupid from an aesthetic standpoint."

Prices have soared on some of Trump's other renovations, including the East Wing and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, but it's unclear how much a helipad would cost.
