As the city falls under a heat advisory this week, here's what to know about the forecast, and if this heat is expected this time of year.
NYC weather
This week, temperatures in the city will be hitting the 90s before sharply falling. It's expected to be so hot a heat advisory has been issued and NYC Emergency Management has activated its heat emergency plan.
Here's the forecast, according to AccuWeather:
- Tuesday, May 19: high of 97 degrees, low of 75 degrees
- Wednesday, May 20: high of 92 degrees, low of 58 degrees
- Thursday, May 21: high of 66 degrees, low of 53 degrees
- Friday, May 22: high of 65 degrees, low of 51 degrees
Cooling centers across the city will be open, too.

NYC average weather this time of year
According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature for Central Park in May 2025 was 62.3 degrees.
In May, the average temperature typically hovers in the 60s. With a high of 97 degrees for Tuesday, AccuWeather says that it's approaching the record high of 99 degrees in 1962 for this day.

This holiday weekend might be a rainy one. Here's the forecast for Memorial Day weekend in New York City, according to AccuWeather:
