Today is packed with elections across the country
June's busy election calendar kicks off Tuesday with a slate of races that will determine nominees for the November midterms. These races have increasingly high stakes as the results of the November midterms could impact Republicans' narrow majority in the chamber and come amid redistricting efforts across the country.
Up today: California, Iowa, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota host primary races Tuesday, with an eye on U.S. Senate, House and gubernatorial elections. Follow Tuesday's election updates with USA TODAY.

- Election-denying Colorado clerk released from prison. Tina Peters, a former Republican county clerk who has falsely denied the results of the 2020 presidential election and who was convicted of crimes tied to tampering with voting machines, was released from prison early on June 1.
- "Undercover plates" for ICE agents: The Department of Justice sued Maine, Washington, Oregon and Massachusetts, alleging their unwillingness to provide confidential, or undercover, license plates for federal immigration agents is “discriminatory” and unconstitutional.
