What are the delivery robots in Philly, and how do I get one?

Those little delivery robots with the (sometimes winking) automated eyes are popping up all over Center City.

The bots, a newer food delivery option from Uber Eats in collaboration with Avride, have been grabbing the attention of many pedestrians sharing the sidewalk.

But how do they work, what do they cost and should you be worried about your order?

How do Uber Eats delivery robots work? Do Uber Eats robots lock?

Instead of a human courier, AV delivery bots can pick up and drop off your food deliveries.

So, how can you be sure they get to you?

Each delivery is tracked through the app like a regular Uber Eats order, and, when your robotic friend arrives, you can unlock it using the app to retrieve your order.

Do Uber Eats robots cost a lot? Can I opt out of Uber Eats delivery robot?

Users are able to request an Avride delivery bot (if available) for their order. They can also select a normal human courier.

One difference between the two options is that Avride bots don't take tips, usually allowing customers to save a few bucks.

Still, the delivery option is only for participating restaurants and servicing the Center City area.
