Police have released the names of the six family members who were found dead in a Saratoga County apartment Tuesday evening.

Six family members identified

The six people found dead inside an apartment on Harris Avenue in Mechanicville on June 23 were:

  • Amy Steadman, 64
  • Sarah Myers, 44
  • Harper Harmon, 13
  • Hudson Harmon, 11
  • Gavin Harmon, 10
  • Gracelynn Harmon, 10

Mechanicville Police Chief William Rabbitt said the six were found inside Steadman's apartment.

According to Rabbitt, Myers was Steadman's daughter, and the four children were Myers' children and Steadman's grandchildren.

Myers and her children lived in a separate apartment within the same housing complex, which is part of the John S. Moore Homes development operated by the Mechanicville Housing Authority.

Mechanicville is located in Saratoga County, about 20 miles north of Albany.

Welfare check led to discovery

Police were asked to conduct a welfare check at the apartment after neighbors became concerned when they had not seen the resident for several days, Rabbitt said.

Officers arrived at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Mechanicville Police Department.

While conducting the welfare check, officers discovered the six family members dead inside the apartment.

Investigation continues

Rabbitt said the deaths are being investigated as part of a criminal investigation while authorities await autopsy results.

At this time, police have found no evidence indicating the involvement of any additional individuals, Rabbitt said.

"There is no known threat to the public," he added.

Authorities have not released details about how the six family members died.

"This is a tragic incident that has deeply affected our community," Rabbitt said in a statement Wednesday. "Our thoughts are with the family members, friends and all those impacted by this loss."

What happens next?

Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Mechanicville Police Department at 518-664-7383.

The investigation remains ongoing. New York State Police are assisting local authorities.
