FBI conducts search warrants at LAUSD headquarters, superintendent home

Updated Feb. 25, 2026, 3:30 p.m. ET

(This story was updated to add new information.)

The FBI is executing a search warrant at the home and office of Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

“We can confirm that the FBI is serving a court-authorized warrant,” the FBI National Press Office said when asked to confirm whether agents were executing search warrants at the locations.

“However, the affidavit in support of the warrant has been sealed by the court, and we, therefore, have no further comment,” the press office said.

The press office did not respond to questions about when the search warrants were executed or why they were executed. Ciaran McEvoy, a spokesperson with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, confirmed the search but said the office will have no further comment. McEvoy did not answer questions about why the search warrants were served or whether Carvalho is the subject of a criminal investigation.

Los Angeles Unified School District did not immediately respond to the USA TODAY Network’s request for comment.

"We have been informed of law enforcement activity at Los Angeles Unified School District headquarters and at the home of the Superintendent," LAUSD said in a statement published on its website. "The District is cooperating with the investigation, and we do not have further information at this time."

CBS reported that images show agents wearing FBI-labeled clothing at Carvalho’s home on the morning of Feb. 25. The Associated Press reported that federal officials “served the warrants as part of an ongoing investigation,” citing a person familiar with the matter.

LAUSD is one of the largest school districts in the United States, serving thousands of students in Southern California. Carvalho has served as superintendent since 2022.
