JFK airport terminal evacuated after woman made bomb threat, officials say

June 12, 2026, 10:50 a.m. ET

Part of New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport was evacuated on June 12 after a bomb threat, airport officials said.

At 7:45 a.m. local time, a woman allegedly told an airline employee at a check-counter in Terminal 4 that she had a bomb in her bag, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed to USA TODAY.

The Port Authority Police Department and the New York Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene, the agency said, and as a precaution shut down the terminal and rerouted passengers from the area to conduct a security sweep.

Following the investigation, the area was cleared and determined to be safe, and the terminal was reopened.

The woman was taken into custody and arrested, officials said.

This is a developing story.
