Purported Arkansas tornado video shows clips that are old, from Italy | Fact check

The claim: Video shows Arkansas tornado on Jan. 29

A Jan. 29 Facebook post (direct link, archive link) shows a montage of tornado and extreme weather footage.

"Tornado in Roger Arkansas (sic)," reads text superimposed on the video. The post's caption reads, "Arkansas tornado today."

The video was shared more than 500 times in two weeks.

There was no tornado in Rogers, Arkansas, on Jan. 29, according to an area meteorologist. The video includes footage that circulated online prior to Jan. 29.

Thomas Jones, a National Weather Service meteorologist working in Arkansas, told USA TODAY there was no tornado reported in Rogers, Arkansas, on Jan. 29.

Multiple clips in the video circulated online before Jan. 29, including clips posted in 2019 and 2024.

It also includes a 2022 clip from a storm in Italy.

USA TODAY has debunked numerous posts falsely claiming to show tornadoes in various parts of the U.S.

USA TODAY reached out to the Facebook user who shared the post for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
