  • Residents in Lake and Sumter counties are planning "No Kings 2.0" demonstrations against the Trump administration.
  • Events are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, in Leesburg, Mount Dora, Clermont, and The Villages.
  • Organizers emphasize a commitment to nonviolent action and are encouraging creative signs and patriotic decorations.

Residents throughout Lake and Sumter counties are creating signs and making plans for what's being dubbed "the No Kings 2.0 movement," as part of a series of ongoing demonstrations against the Trump administration.

The movement began in spring 2025, when millions of Americans participated in nationwide demonstrations, opposing "the authoritarian consolidation of power in our democracy," according to the Democratic Club of The Villages in their media release about this Saturday's event.

"No Kings 2.0 builds on this nonviolent protest movement, reiterating that power in a democracy belongs to the people, not to any single leader."

Where can you attend a No Kings event in Lake County?

No Kings demonstrations are being organized from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Lake Sumter State College, 9411 U.S. 441, Leesburg; U.S. 441 and North Donnelly Street in Mount Dora; and in Clermont at City Hall, 685 W. Montrose St.

"A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action," the Lake County Democrats organization posted on their online event listing, adding that they expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation and warned against bringing weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, to Saturday's event.

"Bring your most creative signs, costumes, water, and sunscreen," the South Lake Democratic Club said in their No Kings event posting.

"We’ll start at Clermont City Hall, where we’ll listen to inspiring leaders and stand together for democracy. ... After the rally, we’ll march down to SR 50 from 8th Street to wave signs. The route is wheelchair accessible, though it is on a hill."

What to bring to No Kings this Saturday?

Say Clermont's Dems: " Bring your most creative signs, costumes, water and sunscreen."

Anti-Trump sentiments and some anti-Democrat demonstrators showed up to the No Kings event in The Villages, organized by Villagers for Democracy on President Trump's 79th birthday, June 14, 2025.

Will there be demonstrations in The Villages?

Yes. In The Villages and surrounding communities, the Democratic Club of The Villages is coordinating “Stand Up for Democracy” rallies as part of the No Kings 2.0 movement, a nationwide and, due to ancillary protests overseas, international event, on Oct. 18.

Two Villages rallies will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, in The Villages. The northern rally will be held on Morse Blvd. between Old Mill Run and Stillwater Trail near Lake Sumter Landing.

The southern rally will be held at the intersection of Warm Springs Avenue and Marsh Bend Trail near the Everglades Recreation Center.

"It's time to speak up now," said John McCarey, who, along with wife Karla, is a member of the Democratic Club of The Villages, and a resident of the Village of Dunedin, citing the murder of podcaster Charlie Kirk, former Democratic Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and "far too many schoolchildren."

Anti-Trump sentiments and some anti-Democrat demonstrators showed up to the No Kings event in The Villages near Lake Sumter Landing on June 14, 2025, which also happens to be the president's 79th birthday.

Expect more decorated golf carts in The Villages

Both Villages rallies are golf cart accessible (of course).

Participants are asked to festoon their golf carts with patriotic decorations and to bring their own posters.

Some posters will be available to borrow at both sites in The Villages.

The non-partisan Villagers for Democracy's Rochelle Larson, Casey Marr and Paula Orlando organized the May Day protest in The Villages on May 1, 2025.

Where can you park in The Villages?

Anyone driving a car should park only in shared Villages parking spaces (public lots in Lake Sumter Landing, Everglades Rec Center), not in commercial parking lots.

Why are people still demonstrating?

“The cost of living is rising. Masked agents are violating individuals’ rights. Services for the elderly, families and the military are being cut. Our right to free speech is being hindered,” said Deb Krase, Village of Collier and member of the Rally Committee.

“My husband and I decided we will not stand by in silence. Freedom is in our DNA. We choose to stand up for democracy."
