Rising prices or not, Americans are not willing to give up satisfying their sweet tooth this Easter.

While traditions like dyeing eggs, egg hunts and big family meals may look different from family to family, one thing remains true: people love to celebrate Easter with candy and confections.

In fact, the overwhelming majority of Americans who celebrate the holiday (92%) do so with the assistance of candy, according to the National Confectioners Association (NCA), and an April WalletHub report found that more than half of parents plan to make an Easter basket for their children, with 89% saying it will include chocolate and other candies.

Wondering which sweet treat is the most popular where you live? Data collected by Google and shared with USA TODAY can tell you exactly which candy has been searched the most in each state over the last month.

According to Google search data, marshmallow Peeps take the cake - or the Easter basket - as the most beloved Easter treat in the largest number of states.

Gummies, M&Ms, Skittles and peanut butter eggs also made multiple appearances. Only one state, Vermont, preferred chocolate eggs and Idaho was an outlier with a taste for lollipops.

Shoppers spending more money on candy than anything else this Easter

Easter spending is expected to go up in 2025, according to a recent National Retail Federation (NRF) report, with consumers planning to spend a total of $23.6 billion.

The largest spending category is candy, which is projected to account for $3.3 billion in spending. The NRF's survey found that 92% of shoppers planned to purchase candy this year.

The overwhelming majority of Americans who celebrate Easter do so with the assistance of candy, according to the NCA. The top sweet treats bought for the holiday include chocolate eggs or bunnies, jelly beans, candy-coated eggs and marshmallow candy (AKA Peeps).
