1 dead, 11 injured in Myrtle Beach police-involved shooting, officials say

One person was killed and 11 were injured during a shooting that occurred in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday night, April 26, police said.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department said an individual began firing a weapon when officers responded to a disturbance in Myrtle Beach around 11:50 p.m. local time April 26, the department said in a news release. In response, an officer discharged their weapon.

One person died due to injuries suffered during officers' response, while eleven other individuals were injured during the altercation and were receiving medical treatment.

The incident is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the news release states. Per protocol, the state's law enforcement division will also conduct an independent internal investigation, as an officer was involved.

Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the individual who was shot and killed as 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville, which is about 100 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach, multiple outlets including WBTW and WMBF reported. The Horry County Coroner's Office did not immediately respond when contacted by USA TODAY on Monday.
