Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "TODAY" show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been reported missing in Arizona, officials said late Feb. 1.

At around noon local time on Sunday, Feb. 1, the Pima County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting Nancy Guthrie, 84, missing from her home outside Tucson, Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a news conference.

"Ms. Guthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health and so naturally we have some great concerns," Nanos said. "The scene at the house also has some concerns for us as well."

Nanos said at a news conference on Feb. 2 that officials suspect a crime occurred in Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

"We believe now, after we've processed that crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime," Nanos said.

He also said there are indications that the 84-year-old did not leave her home on her own.

According to a missing persons flyer, Nancy Guthrie is 5'5" and about 150 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information should contact the Pima County Sheriff's Office at (520) 351-4900.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing in Arizona on Feb. 1.

The sheriff asked for the community's help in searching for Nancy Guthrie, as she is without her required daily medication.

"This is a 84-year-old lady who suffers from some physical ailments, has some physical challenges, is in need of medication — medication that if she does not have, it could be fatal," Nanos said.

Tom Winter, national law enforcement and intelligence correspondent for NBC, appeared on Monday's "TODAY" broadcast, sharing that authorities "were able to get out helicopters (Sunday) night that use infrared cameras" for their search. "They’ve got drones up. They’ve enlisted the help of the Customs and Border Protection… The FBI’s also aware of this case as well.”

In a statement, the "TODAY" show told USA TODAY that Guthrie's family is "grateful for the outreach, thoughts and prayers."

"We can confirm this is a missing persons case, and the family is working closely with local law enforcement," the statement said.

Savannah Guthrie, who has been open about her close relationship with her mother over the years on the "TODAY" show, thanked supporters in a statement.

"On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support," she said. "Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at (520) 351-4900."

Nancy Guthrie, who has appeared on the "TODAY" show several times over the years, is a single mom to Savannah Guthrie and her sister. Their father died of a heart attack when Savannah Guthrie was sixteen years old.

"She has met unthinkable challenges in her life with grit, without self-pity, with determination, and always, always with unshakeable faith," Savannah Guthrie said in a tribute on her mother's 80th birthday in 2022.
