SoCal authorities disrupt scheme to resell stolen Home Depot goods
Two people accused of selling stolen Home Depot goods at a swap meet in Los Angeles County were arrested, following an “extensive investigation,” authorities said.
In a social media post Saturday, May 2, California Highway Patrol announced that its Southern Division Organized Retail Crime Task Force had arrested two people accused of trafficking in stolen goods from Home Depot.
According to the agency, the suspects didn’t steal the tools themselves, but rather purchased the stolen inventory with the intention of reselling it at a swap meet in Los Angeles County. The products were stolen from “various” Home Depot stores across Southern California, CHP said, though the specific locations have not been revealed.
$600,000 worth of product recovered
Authorities said that they obtained search warrants for the suspects’ residence in a subsequent investigation. On May 2, they recovered an additional $600,000 worth of stolen Home Depot products.
The individuals’ names are currently being withheld, pending the ongoing investigation, FOX11 reported.
Speaking to NBC4, the California Highway Patrol said it is “committed to aggressively investigating organized retail crime activity in the Los Angeles region and throughout California.”
