Just before 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, FDNY received a call for an explosion inside a five-story building on East 209th Street between Decatur Avenue and Parkside Place, in the Bronx’s Norwood neighborhood, the agency said in an email. Officials said they found flames on the building’s second and third floors. The blaze is currently classified as a five-alarm fire.

Multiple people are reportedly hurt and heavy smoke and flames are engulfing the building at the scene. Police tape has been set up as firefighters work to bring the fire under control.

At least six people – including one firefighter – required medical attention, according to officials, though the extent and severity of their injuries was not known. However, FDNY did confirm that at least one person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
