Artemis II sonic boom expected over Southern California

A sonic boom is expected as the spacecraft Artemis II re-enters Earth's atmosphere on April 10, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is reporting.

The thunderous sound is likely to occur between 5 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Pacific Time, the USGS wrote in a post on X.

The boom, USGS said, may be heard throughout Southern California.

The Orion capsule is due to reenter Earth's atmosphere to make a water landing around 5:07 p.m. PT in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego.
