Trump slams Rob Reiner after his death
"He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump," the president said of Rob Reiner.
Zac AndersonPresident Donald Trump lashed out at slain director and actor Rob Reiner, saying his death was "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through... a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME."
"He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump," the president added in a Dec. 15 social media post.
Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were killed in their Los Angeles home Dec. 14. There has been no indication from officials that Reiner's death had anything to do with his political beliefs. Police took Reiner's son, Nick Reiner, into custody, charged him with murder and are holding him on $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles Sheriff's Department records and comments by Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell.

Praise for the iconic Hollywood couple and sympathy for their family immediately poured in from leading entertainment industry and political figures.
"Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen," former President Barack Obama posted on social media. "But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action."
Trump struck a different note in his comments, calling Reiner "tortured and struggling" and describing his views on the president as a "massive, unyielding and incurable affliction."
The president's reaction to Reiner's death drew condemnation from Democrats and some Republicans.
"Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered," Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, who has clashed with Trump, said on social media.
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who also has been at odds with Trump, shared his post on Reiner and said, "This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies."
Republican Rep. Mike Lawler called Trump's statement about Reiner "wrong."
Reiner, 78, repeatedly criticized Trump. During an MSNBC appearance in October, he said, "We have a year before this country becomes a full-on autocracy completely and democracy completely leaves us," according to The Hill. He told Variety in 2017 that Trump was "mentally unfit" for the presidency.
Known for acting in "All in the Family" and directing movies such as "The Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally..." and "A Few Good Men," Reiner also was outspoken in his political views, backing progressive causes and helping raise money for Democrats.
