Even Tucker Carlson's critics like his new merch. Here's why.
"I absolutely hate Tucker Carlson, but I'll admit the nyc beanie goes kinda hard," an Instagram user said.
Greta CrossTucker Carlson's latest batch of merch is – to some's surprise – striking a chord with both political sides of the aisle.
The conversative talking head released a new line of merchandise on his Tucker Carlson Network website in early March, including t-shirts, hoodies, ballcaps and mugs. The merch takes ironic jabs at a more liberal-leaning audience, with an "NYC" beanie that depicts a hammer and sickle – the widespread symbol for communism – in place of the C, a T-shirt that bears "Sorry, I thought you were a Fed," and a coffee mug that reads, "Nation Building is Gay."
In a March 3 Instagram post, the network promoted a T-shirt that reads, "AIPAC. An offer you can't refuse," in reference to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and a ballcap with "Neocons are Gay for War" across the front. Neoconservatism (neocon) is a political ideology associated with a strong government presence in foreign affairs, including a robust military.
"It’s time we show our disdain for the endless foreign wars destroying our country and expose those propagating them," the Tucker Carlson Network wrote in the Instagram post.
The merchandise ranges from $25 for mugs to $60 for zip-up hoodies. USA TODAY reached out to the Tucker Carlson Network for more information about the merchandise.
After about seven years with the media company, Carlson parted ways with Fox News in 2023 and transitioned to independent media, namely, operating his own media company, Tucker Carlson Network, launched in 2024.
Social media reacts to ironic merchandise
The new merchandise speaks to Carlson supporters and critics, according to social media commentary.
"We already love you, Tucker. You didn't have to make us love you more," one Carlson follower commented on the network's Instagram post promoting the merchandise. "As if I needed yet another reason to love Tucker," another follower commented.
Several comedians have also chimed in with their mixed feelings about the merch.
"I f****** hate when evil people are funny," content creator Jasmine Parniani said with a laugh in a recent TikTok video. "I need these to hit the thrift stores so I can buy secondhand because as a socialist, I cannot support, but as a girlie who loves a bit??????"
On an Instagram post rounding up the different merch items, a user wrote: "I absolutely hate Tucker Carlson, but I'll admit the NYC beanie goes kinda hard."
Co-op sells its own versions of Tucker Carlson merch
Means Workwear, a clothing brand subsidy of independent streaming service Means TV, has released its own line of Tucker Carlson-inspired merchandise, including the a hammer and sickle NYC beanie and "Neocons are Gay for Israel" ballcap.
"If you saw the Tucker Carlson merch and you thought to yourself, 'That's really rad, but I can't support Tucker Carlson,' we got just what you need. It's actually better than his," a Means Workwear employee said in an Instagram video posted on March 6.
