Trump to undergo annual physical at the end of May, White House says

May 12, 2026, 9:09 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is set to receive his annual medical and dental examinations on May 26, marking the near-octogenarian's fourth visit to medical experts since his return to the White House.

Trump, who turns 80 years old on June 14, will also meet with service members during his trip to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the White House said.

Trump's health has been under enormous scrutiny after he became the oldest person elected president of the United States. Trump has dismissed any health concerns. "I feel the same as I felt 50 years ago," Trump said at a May 4 White House event. "I'm not a senior. I'm far younger than a senior."

Trump later joked about his lack of exercise outside of playing golf. "I work out so much. Like, about one minute a day, max. If I'm lucky," he said on May 5.

Trump received his first routine physical of his second term in April 2025, with the White House's physician describing his overall health as "excellent" and saying he's "fully fit" to serve as commander in chief. He was later examined in July and diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after displaying visible swelling in his lower legs near his ankles.

Trump followed that up in October with what the White House described as a "semi-annual physical." Trump later said that he underwent an MRI exam ‒ it was technically a CT exam ‒ during the checkup. Trump's doctor said the physical was "preventative" and the results were "perfectly normal."

The White House said additional information about Trump's visit to Walter Reed will be released at a later time.

U.S. President Donald Trump prepares to deliver remarks as he hosts his second 'Rose Garden Club' dinner in honor of Police Week at the White House in Washington, DC, May 11, 2026.

For months, Trump has displayed mysterious bruises on his hand that he has attributed to taking large doses of aspirin each day for blood thinning. Trump has said the aspirin causes him to bruise easily, and that he applies makeup to cover up the discoloring.

Trump has also bragged that he's "aced" cognitive exams that have accompanied his medical exams as he frequently mocks the mental fitness of his predecessor, former President Joe Biden. The attacks have invited added scrutiny about his own abilities.

Trump has maintained an active schedule as president, with plans to embark on May 12 to China for a high-stakes meeting with President Xi Jinping. Yet he's also been captured by cameras closing his eyes during some recent White House events. Trump has denied falling asleep, insisting that he closes his eyes for relaxation.
