Montana election results: Latest on races for House, Senate

June 2 was a jam-packed election day with primary races across the country.

Winners in U.S. House, Senate primary races in Montana will be on ballots in November midterm elections, which come as President Donald Trump and Republicans look to maintain control of Capitol Hill. One race to watch is Montana's first congressional district, where a seat is open after Republican U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke announced he is not seeking a fourth term due to health reasons.

Here are the results to know from Montana's primary races on June 2 ahead of the fall contests, according to Associated Press and CNN.

Montana House primary results

District 1

  • Republican: Aaron Flint (50% of votes) defeated Christi Jacobsen (23.6% of votes), Al Olszewski (19.8% of votes) and Ray Curtis (6.6% of votes) with an estimated 95% of votes counted.
  • Democrat: This race has not yet been called as of early Wednesday. Sam Forstag leads with 37.3% of votes and an estimated 91% of votes counted.

District 2

  • Republican: Incumbent Rep. Troy Downing won the race uncontested.
  • Democrat: Brian Miller (55.8% of votes) defeated Sam Luz (26.9% of votes) and Jonathan Windy Boy (17.2% of votes) with an estimated 94% of votes counted.

Montana Senate primary

One of Montana's two Senate seats is open after Republican Sen. Steve Daines, 63, announced that he will not seek reelection in November's midterm elections. Trump endorsed U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana Kurt Alme shortly after Daines dropped out.

  • Republican: Kurt Alma (76.3% of votes) defeated Lee Calhoun (14.1% of votes) and Charles Walking Child (9.6% of votes) with an estimated 95% of votes counted.
  • Democrat: Alani Bankhead (43.7% of votes) defeated Reilly Neil (32.9% of votes), Michael Black Wolf (13.2% of votes), Christopher Kehoe (6.4% of votes) and Michael Hummer (3.9% of votes) with an estimated 91% of votes counted.
