South Carolina election results: Latest on Republican governor runoff
The Trump ticket was winning either way.
A South Carolina GOP runoff on Tuesday, June 23, was a battle between two Trump-backed candidates. The president supported both Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson in the GOP primary runoff. The runoff comes after neither candidate crossed the 50% of votes threshold in the June 9 primary.
Here's how Wilson and Evette performed in the runoff, according to the Associated Press and CNN.

Alan Wilson (68.6% of votes) defeated Pam Evette (31.4% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted. Wilson will face Democratic nominee Rep. Jermaine Johnson.
Wilson said that if he takes office, his "true north" will be making South Carolina more affordable, according to Greenville News, part of the USA TODAY Network. His other priorities included running an audit of every state agency, fixing infrastructure and ending an "era of bad corporate deals."
"I will never forget that I work for you the people," Wilson said an election night event. “I will always put you and your families first."
Leading up to the runoff, Evette and Wilson's runoff campaigns quickly turned contentious, reported the Greenville News, part of the USA TODAY Network. Both candidates offered highly similar platforms, including support of restricted abortion access, improving road and bridge infrastructure, enforcing border policies, and supporting Trump's agenda.
