2026 Mississippi midterm election results: US Senate, House, local winners
The heated contest for U.S. Senate between Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democratic challenger Scott Colom was not decided on Tuesday, with the race expected to drag on for days.
The Mississippi Senate race woke up Wednesday morning pretty much the way it went to bed overnight — in a dead heat. That changed only slightly through the day on Wednesday and into Thursday.
Colom was 1,138 votes up on Thursday morning, according to CNN. ABC News reported the same tally. Colom had 49% of the vote according to CNN, and Hyde-Smith had 48.9% of the vote. Independent Ty Pinkins had 2.1% of the vote.
Most Mississippi counties had not reported complete vote totals. There could be thousands of affidavit ballots to be counted as well. County clerks have 10 days to certify the results of the election, meaning the deadline to find out Mississippi's next U.S. Senator is Nov. 13, according to a spokesperson from the Secretary of State's office. The spokesperson declined to estimate when the results might be released.
