Democrats delivered a commanding blow to President Donald Trump's GOP after securing key Senate seats in states like Michigan, Texas and Maine.

In a definitive rebuke of the president, voters flipped seats in traditionally Republican-held states to return Senate control to Democrats.

Another sign of the blue wave, Democrats also won back the majority in the U.S. House, giving the party control of both chambers of Congress.

In Texas, Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton, while Democrat Abdul El-Sayed also prevailed in Michigan to become the nation's first Muslim U.S. senator.

States with longstanding Republican senators also flipped blue. In Maine, Democratic challenger Troy Jackson defeated five-term Republican Sen. Susan Collins. And in Kansas, Adam Hamilton will become the first Democratic senator since 1932 after defeating Republican incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall.
