These western PA towns are among the best small towns in the Northeast

Western Pennsylvania has two of the Best Small Towns in the Northeast, according to voting results released April 8 by the USA Today 10BEST 2026 Readers' Choice Awards.

Ohiopyle continued its consistent presence within this category, placing third in the 2026 vote for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.

"Ohiopyle is situated along the meandering Youghiogheny River and draws adventurers of all ages with its rugged charm and variety of natural wonders," according to a description of the area posted on the 10BEST site in this category.

Its 2026 Readers' Choice award adds to a fourth-place award in 2025 and a first-place award in 2024 for Best Small Town in the Northeast.

Sewickley Borough in Allegheny County received the 2026 Readers' Choice award for Best Small Town in the Northeast and earned seventh place in the nation in the Best Small Town Food Scene category.

A panel of travel writers provides the nominations for each category, and a public vote determines the final 10BEST results. USA Today 10BEST and the Daily American are both owned by parent company USA Today Co.
