How will this 'No Kings' day will be different? SoCal locations list

Oct. 16, 2026, 2:40 p.m. ET

Southern Californians are urged to vote early in the upcoming midterm election at the latest iteration of the nationwide “No Kings” events planned for this weekend.

Nearly 3,000 events are planned as part of “No Kings: Vote Early” on Saturday, Oct. 17 — and more than 300 events in California alone, according to the No Kings Coalition. The day is intended to help people vote early and expand election protection, with Election Day just over two weeks away.

The move comes as the Department of Justice seeks to stop California from counting vote-by-mail ballots from alleged likely noncitizens in the upcoming election until it can determine their citizenship status. Gov. Gavin Newsom described it as an attempt by the Trump administration to suppress California voters, while the California Secretary of State questioned the validity of the federal government's allegations.

What is ‘No Kings’?

In June 2025, scores of Californians joined “No Kings Day” protests planned for the same day as the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary celebration—a pricey parade that also fell on President Donald Trump's birthday. Another wave of nationwide “No Kings” protests came several months later in October and again in March of this year.

“The president thinks his rule is absolute,” the No Kings website says. “But in America, we don’t have kings — and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty. Our peaceful movement is only getting bigger. ‘No Kings’ is more than just a slogan; it is the foundation our nation was built upon.”

The latest iteration of nationwide “No Kings” events aims to be “the biggest election protection and early vote activation in history,” organizers said.

“It's a day of nonpartisan voter participation, being in community with each other, and making sure every eligible voter has a plan, knows their options, and is ready to make their voice count,” organizers said.
