Julia GomezA monstrous tornado was spotted in the Midwest, as Illinois and surrounding states faced severe thunderstorms that left one person in Iowa dead.
On Thursday, June 11, multiple tornadoes hit Illinois and northwestern Indiana, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago. Some caused notable damage in each state.
Video shows one of the reported tornadoes moving through the city of Streator, Illinois, about 100 miles southwest of Chicago. Multiple houses were destroyed as storms hit north-central Illinois, according to Storyful.
The video was filmed by Valeria Moore, who said the tornado passed by less than a mile away from her home in Streator.
"It's right here!" Moore is heard saying in the video.

Storms leave 1 dead
In the last several days, tornadoes and large hail were reported across Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana, according to AccuWeather. The storms left behind damage, downed trees, downed power lines and power outages across the Midwest.
On June 11, a man in Des Moines, Iowa, was killed when a tree fell on a homeless encampment, reported the Des Moines Register, part of the USA TODAY Network.
Thousands left without power
Across Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, over 350,000 are without power after the storms, according to USA TODAY's power outage tracker.
As of Friday, June 12, at 9 a.m. ET, around 224,649 outages were reported in Illinois, 95,307 in Indiana and 63,997 in Michigan.
