It's Thursday, Florida.

The battle over Alligator Alcatraz, the immigration detention center built in the Florida Everglades, continues, with its future now resting with a federal appeals court.

Judges with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard more than an hour of arguments in response to a lawsuit brought against the state of Florida over the facility. Expect a written decision.

Here's a little more of what's going on across Florida:

RIP Buddy: A nearly 1,000-pound alligator named Buddy who was a fan favorite at Gatorland in Orlando has succumbed to age and health issues. He was between 60 and 70 years old.

Gatorland in Orlando announced on April 8, 2026 that fan favorite Buddy the alligator died.

Gas prices: We talked to experts about what the Iran ceasefire will mean for our gas prices. Will we see prices fall below $4 a gallon?

On their way home: Florida is not at the center of the action but we'll still be watching closely as the Artemis II crew returns home from their mission around the moon. Read Space Reporter Brooke Edward's story to learn what to expect during splashdown.
