Should you get a book tattoo?📚

Have you ever gotten a tattoo for your favorite book or author?

At the end of my recent literary tour of Cairo, Athens and Rome with Percy Jackson fans, half of our 30-person tour group inked a reference to Rick Riordan’s beloved series on their skin. Not only was this a memory from the trip, but also an ode to the books that shaped them as people. Even more special, one of our trip-goers designed the tattoo, an amphora decorated with Blackjack the pegasus and the signature squiggle from the chapters.

But even before the group tattoos ensued, I found myself talking about tattoos with nearly everyone on the trip. From Kurt Vonnegut quotes to romantasy sleeves, this was a seriously decorated group of booklovers. My mom also recently got a bracelet-style tattoo with charms that represent each member of my family. Mine? An open book.

🐉A ‘Fourth Wing’ sleeve: Becca Messick, 27, has an entire arm dedicated to her favorite romantasy books, including dragons from "Fourth Wing" by Rebecca Yarros and quotes from "Throne of Glass" by Sarah J. Maas.

🌔Forever saying ‘Goodnight Moon’: Sophie Weber, 24, got a tattoo inspired by the children's book "Goodnight Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown. It's the framed picture that hangs over the fireplace mantle in the book.

🔱A personal ‘Percy Jackson’ tribute: Brandi Collins, 30, has the same tattoo as Legion members at Camp Jupiter in the Percy Jackson universe. The Latin acronym has lines indicating the number of years at camp or, in Collins' case, the number of years from when she started reading the series until she first visited New York City, Percy's hometown.
