The Daily Money: Refresh your wardrobe for free?

July 31, 2026, 10:47 a.m. ET

Good morning and Happy Friday! This is Betty Lin-Fisher with Friday's consumer-focused edition of The Daily Money.

Recently, I gathered 16 things from my closet and went to a clothing swap. I left with 23 new-to-me pieces of clothing but actually ended up with 26 things for my wardrobe after I got home. That's thanks to my adult daughter who came with me since I liked a few of her cast-offs.

It was so fun to go to this clothing swap with my daughter, not just because we got the chance to bond while "shopping" for free clothes, but because it embraced our beliefs in reducing waste by giving our discarded clothes a new life with someone else.

I also overheard a conversation between two women about a beautiful vintage quilted jacket. One commented how wonderful the other looked in the jacket, which she happened to have brought to the swap.

Want to learn how to find a clothing swap in your area – or how to host one? I've got you.

Abigail Drennen (left) and Julie Holiday, both of Akron, Ohio, show off some of the items they found at a recent clothing swap.

Here's one thing that drives Costco customers crazy

Have you ever tried to park at Costco on a Saturday or really anytime? It's not pretty.

People love Costco, but they don't love parking at Costco.

It's like "Survivor" with cars, reports my colleague Jessica Guynn. And be sure to vote in our poll on what is the best day to shop at the warehouse.
