Tennessee Titans president and CEO Burke Nihill said a new stadium has become “Plan A” for the franchise because it is the most holistic 30- to 60-year solution for Nashville, Titans beat reporter Ben Arthur writes.

The cost of a new professional football stadium in Nashville would be $1 billion more than the price of Nissan Stadium renovations — but would still not bring any meaningful savings, a review has found.

Business reporter Sandy Mazza and Metro reporter Cassandra Stephenson tell us more: The analysis found that Nissan Stadium’s 1997 structure was built with shoddy pipes and pre-fab concrete and would need $900 million in upgrades to remain stable until 2039. That figure is in addition to $1.2 billion needed to renovate the facility today.

"A building with a roof certainly would open up opportunities that don’t exist today," Nihill said, adding that a new stadium could attract big events including WrestleMania and a Super Bowl.

The information bolstered the team’s claims that the best bet for everyone, including the community, would be to build a new $2.2 billion arena. Learn more about the report here.
