46% of Americans want to abolish ICE. Do you agree? Tell us. | Opinion
Do you think Immigration and Customs Enforcement is helping Minneapolis and the rest of the country? Or is the agency doing more harm than good? Tell us below.
Joel BurgessFederal agents carrying out President Donald Trump's immigration policies − while also killing two U.S. citizens in the span of three weeks – have lost the confidence of the American people, according to a recent YouGov poll.
But more striking than the 55% of respondents who told YouGov they have "very little confidence" in Immigration and Customs Enforcement is what respondents told YouGov in another poll: 46% of Americans support abolishing ICE.
Meanwhile, only 41% of those who answered said they oppose getting rid of the agency that has been the spearhead of one of Trump's most highly promoted issues, immigration.
Notably, respondents to the Jan. 24 poll would have heard about the shooting death of Renee Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross 18 days earlier. But because the poll was conducted the same day and shortly after federal border agents shot Alex Pretti, respondents might not have yet learned about that second deadly incident.
What do you think? Should ICE be abolished?
Now, with even more time passed, we'd like to know what you, our USA TODAY readers, think about the continued existence of ICE. Should it be abolished? Or reformed? Or have its funding cut? What, if anything, should take its place?
Tell us using the form below for a chance to be included in a follow-up post. You can also email us at [email protected] using the subject line "ICE reform."
