O Canada! Trump wants you singing our star-spangled anthem | Opinion

Trump continues to post on social media his desire for Canada to be the 51st state. I'm not sure he's thought this though.

Donald Trump really wants Canada to be our 51st state.

Or, as he put it on social media, “Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned.

“If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!”

I suppose we’d have to ask Canadians just how “many” want to dissolve their nation and be absorbed by us.

Also, I’d guess that Canadians might justifiably wonder if Trump actually knows anything about them.

Does Trump know anything about Canada?

For instance, do you suppose Trump knows that Canada, with a land area bigger than the United States, is divided into provinces and territories?

And if he does, do you suppose he’d know how many of each there are?

And if he does, do you suppose he could name them?

I’m guessing that even Trump would know that in Quebec (one of the provinces) they speak French.

Although, I wonder if he or his MAGA followers would permit such a thing if it was part of the United States.

Could you find the 'polar bear capital' on a map?

Do you think he knows in which province the Calgary Stampede is held?

Or which one has a town known as the polar bear capital of the world?

Or what that town’s name is?

Here’s a hint (meaning, the answers):

There are 10 Canadian provinces and three territories.

The provinces are Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan. The territories are Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.

The Calgary Stampede is held in Alberta, and Churchill, Manitoba, is the polar bear capital of the world.

If Canada were a state, the GOP would never win

More importantly, do you suppose Trump knows that Canada has 41 million citizens, which is somewhat more people than in California?

Or that Canada plans to welcome roughly 500,000 immigrants a year for the next several years? (MAGA would definitely not like that.)

Do you think Trump knows that if Canada were to become a state, its population would give it roughly 54 seats in the House of Representatives and two senators?

I read an article describing the overall political makeup of Canada and the possible implications that those congressional numbers might have on future U.S. elections.

That particular article had a line in it that read, “Trump and his Republican Party would certainly not like the answer: the GOP might never win a national election ever again.”

I’d say we keep that little bit of information to ourselves, eh?
