Aldi ending year-end rush with 4 more Florida grand openings

Grocery chain Aldi is opening four more locations in Florida this week, part of an end-of-the-year rush toward the company's goal of breaking their own one-year record.

On Thursday, Dec. 18, the German grocery chain known for its no-frills attitude will hold grand openings in Bradenton, Ormond Beach, Sarasota and Saint Johns. Each location's grand opening starts with an 8:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony and includes gift bags and gift cards for the first 100 customers and the chance to win a sweepstakes for a $500 Aldi gift card.

A grand opening in Chiefland, originally planned for Thursday, was moved to next month.

"Shoppers will find that every decision we make, from our product selection to store layout, is to provide our customers with the best products at the lowest possible prices of any national grocer," Matt Thon, regional vice president for ALDI, said in an email. "Our customers can save up to 36% on an average household’s shopping list."

These are only the latest store openings in Florida. Locations in Homosassa, Lakeland and Port Charlotte opened Dec. 4, and stores in Bushnell, Leesburg, North Fort Myers, Port Charlotte (another one), Port Saint John, Saint Johns, Sarasota, Seminole, Tampa and Venice opened Dec. 11.

And more are coming, with openings in Chiefland and Port Orange scheduled for Jan. 8.

Several more Winn-Dixie conversions in Florida are still ongoing, including locations in Sebastian and Vero Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, DeBary, Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Pensacola and more, scheduled for 2026.

Aldi grand openings offer free stuff and a chance to win a $500 gift card

At every Aldi grand opening, the first 100 people in line will receive a gift bag of Aldi-exclusive products and a gift card for $10, $25 or $100 as part of the discount grocer's Golden Ticket program. All shoppers can get a free Aldi shopping tote, while supplies last, just look for an Aldi employee and ask.

Shoppers can register from the morning the new location opens through the weekend for a chance to win a $500 gift card, no purchase necessary. Registration at all new locations ends at 8 p.m. the Sunday after the grand opening.

Aldi on track to open most stores ever in 2025

The discount chain famous for low prices and store-brand goods (and a complete lack of coupons, in-store delis, bakeries, pharmacies, loyalty programs, baggers or Muzak) has been working to open 225 new stores nationwide in 2025.

It's the most Aldi has ever opened in a year, with plans for 800 locations by the end of 2028. More than 50 Florida Aldi stores have already opened in 2025, many of them converted Winn-Dixie locations from Aldi's brief acquisition of that company in 2024-2025.

Other grocery chains expanding in Florida

The other grocery chains in Florida aren't just sitting around.

Lakeland-based Publix has opened nine stores since September, many of them revamps to a new format, with another that opened in Jacksonville on Dec. 11.

Meanwhile Trader Joe's, a more upscale grocery destination, opened a location in Daytona Beach in November and another in Melbourne on Dec. 3.
