3D printing is the latest hobby craze that can also double as a side gig, if you're dedicated. But, what does it take to get started? 3D printers were surprisingly more affordable than I was expecting. But, as with any hobby, there are additional costs to keep it going: filament, a printing toolkit, even accessories like ball bearings and magnets, depending on the print.

I recently purchased a Flashforge AD5X 3D printer as a gift for my husband. He's the creative type who is always looking for his next project and having a printer like this around has unlocked a whole new hobby for us both. We're constantly searching for our next print idea, or finding little things around the house that can be improved with a print. Once, you get the cost of the 3D printer out of the way (the heaviest upfront cost), then it's just about keeping a stock of filament, or the occasional extra piece a print might need.
