GTherm Provides Clean, Integrated, and Profitable Solutions to Help Achieve Its NetZeroNow® Vision

In light of the climate crisis, there is a huge need for the world to harness clean, affordable, and sustainable energy to support human needs while reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions. According to the United Nations, emissions must be reduced by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, as per the Paris Agreement. This is an uphill battle, as energy consumption is expected to increase by around 30% between today and 2050.

Historically, energy production has been responsible for more than 50% of carbon emissions globally. The recent COP28 has called for a transition away from fossil fuels to renewable sources. However, many challenges remain. While significant advances have been made in renewable energy, these are still insufficient to provide stable baseload power. To this day, energy generated from fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas, is still primarily used due to its affordability and reliability, despite being extremely polluting. 

GTherm, Inc., an innovative clean energy company founded in 2009 and based in Houston, Texas, has developed a way to achieve net zero electricity generation using existing oil and gas resources. By combining traditional energy sources with sustainability efforts, GTherm is offering a game-changing solution for the energy sector through its innovative and patented GTSystem technology. This is part of GTherm’s NetZeroNow® vision, which aims to help the energy industry achieve net zero much sooner than the 2050 target.

By integrating various legacy siloed systems with advanced technologies, GTSystem enables the generation of baseload electricity with NetZeroNow® greenhouse gas emissions, which is ESG Complainant. It operates on oil and gas reservoirs, utilizing the natural heat and pressure present to generate electricity. This electricity is considered a baseload, meaning it's a consistent and reliable source of power, which is crucial for grid stability. The implementation of this technology results in the earning of substantial carbon credits and within the US additional 45Q tax credits.  

What makes the GTSystem a net zero way of generating electricity is that it captures carbon dioxide, not from the air, but directly from the exhaust of the power plant, where CO2 concentration is the greatest. According to GTherm, this is much more efficient than capturing carbon from the atmosphere, which requires the processing of huge amounts of air to collect minuscule amounts of carbon.

After capturing CO2, the GTSystem injects it back into the oil reservoir. This sequesters the CO2 by storing it underground, preventing it from entering the atmosphere and contributing to climate change. The GTSystem also uses CO2 for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) by injecting heated brine and CO2 into the reservoir and applying wave pulse technology. The heating process allows the extraction of more oil from the reservoir, increasing production and profit for oilfield operators. Some of the CO2 and Nitrogen byproduct of the combustion process is also used in greenhouses to stimulate crop growth and production, which will help in solving food security problems worldwide.

GTherm says that the GTSystem technology brings several advantages, the first of which is NetZeroNow® emissions, bridging the power shortage gap that exists in the current forecasts, and creating a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuel power plants. It also enables grid-independent electricity generation. GTherm Technology rejuvenates depleted and or underperforming oil and gas fields making them once again productive and profitable. GTherm’s geologist advisors believe that there is more residual oil in depleted and underperforming fields than has ever been extracted. With oil and gas reservoirs available in many locations, using the GTSystem will provide electricity even in remote areas and without relying on the grid. 

Aside from its advantageous environmental impact, the GTSystem also generates electricity at a lower cost than traditional methods, potentially making it a more attractive option for energy producers and consumers. This can greatly benefit energy-intensive applications such as data centers, as demand for computing power continues to grow due to advances in artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency. 

GTherm believes that creating a positive impact on the environment requires significant capital investment. To achieve climate targets and the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs), the company aims to create clean, integrated, and profitable solutions to reduce CO2 emissions in energy generation. Because it improves energy generation, food security, employment, and the environment, GTherm can impact 14 out of the 17 SDGs.

By developing innovative infrastructure and technology, GTherm will be able to create financial efficiencies, leading to profitability, which is the main driver of technology adoption. Profitable clean solutions will attract capital and allow the solution to proliferate on a worldwide basis. This proliferation is how GTherm plans to solve the carbon emissions problem. 

Furthermore, with many governments providing subsidies for carbon sequestration, GTherm is creating a profitable model, even without government subsidies, ensuring that it remains financially viable throughout the energy transition, which is a decades-long process with no quick-fix solution.
