Aditya Shah is one such expert who, with a decade’s experience in New York real estate, is ready to tackle the housing crisis. His projects on multifamily housing have contributed to alleviating New York’s housing shortage, helping lead the way to a future of affordable housing for New Yorkers.  

Aditya came to New York City to acquire a master’s degree in construction management. One of the engineering solutions which he utilized on an 8-story mixed use project was the use of secant wall piles technique. Since New York is densely populated, neighboring buildings must be protected. This requires support of excavation so that adjacent buildings do not fall due to soil erosion. 

New York City’s environment offers additional complexities, with obstacles such as train stations making normal underpinning inaccessible. Shah applies creative engineering techniques provided by designing the temporary support of excavation. This ensures the project’s structural integrity and safety during its phases to meet housing demands in New York City. 

Shah has been involved in community development initiatives that collaborate with the private sector. Shah’s contributions to New York real estate have recently been recognized through his earning of the Young Real Estate Developer of the Year award for 2024. 

 For the future of real estate in New York City, he sees the potential in the commercial real estate buildings to be converted into residential that have been recently emptied due to a post-COVID-19 remote work culture. He played a critical role in managing the conversion of 49 Chambers Street, the landmark Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank building to a residential condominium complex. 

Shah states that the challenges of utilizing these properties for affordable housing lie in addressing design, cost, and more. He remains optimistic for the future of housing in New York City.
