Garcia founded NextUI in 2020, growing it from a personal project to a successful business with a team of seven. Compiling high-quality, ready-to-use components, the library simplifies the process of building web applications that are both responsive and feel great to use. 

Last year, NextUI was the eighth most starred project on GitHub globally, drawing 700,000 downloads every month. This year, Garcia launched NextUI Pro, a collection of 180+ components that has generated $300,000 in revenue since February. Most notably, in July, NextUI Inc. was accepted into Y Combinator’s S24 batch, where he saw the real impact of his innovations. 

“It was so rewarding seeing other companies in Y Combinator using NextUI to streamline their front-end development,” Garcia reflects. “All of them looked fantastic by default. When I started creating NextUI, I never imagined that moment was going to happen.” 

How Frontio Is Changing How We Use Design Systems 

With his new release, Frontio, Garcia is aiming to change the current approach to front-end development entirely. Designed as a front-end-as-a-service platform, Frontio makes the process of creating and managing design systems for UI and UX design as simple as possible.“This project represents our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in UX/UI development,” explains Garcia. 

Starting as a plugin for the collaborative interface design tool Figma, the tool allowed users to define and apply design tokens (like border radii, spacers, colors, and typography styles) consistently throughout projects. Now, Garcia is building Frontio into a platform that allows for real-time collaboration and management, aiming to simplify the entire process of design system creation, management, and documentation. 

Today, Frontio provides invaluable support to front-end developers working on platforms like Geeksforgeeks, CSS Grid Generator, and open-source Playstation 2 emulator PCSX2 — all of which have stunning, easy-to-use websites built with the NextUI library. 

Garcia’s Progressive Vision for UI/UX 

Collaboration with both users and developers has remained a crucial part of Garcia’s vision, which is why he’s consistently fostered collaborative communities around all of his projects. For example, the Discord server he created for NextUI has grown to 8,000 members, all of whom have benefited from Garcia’s guidance, insights, and contributions. 

His other open-source contributions continue to have a major impact on the developer community. For example, Garcia’s Tailwind Variants — an API that enhances Tailwind’s CSS framework and allows developers to create variations in the style, behavior, and structure of design components — has racked up 1.2 million monthly downloads. 

But Frontio represents the culmination of Garcia’s vision, as it provides front-end developers with a comprehensive solution for using design systems and component libraries easily and efficiently.
