Ways Nuform Is Taking the World of Health Optimization by Storm

According to research from McKinsey, roughly 50% of Americans rate wellness as a top priority in their daily lives, representing significant growth after the COVID-19 pandemic. This focus on wellness takes many forms, but a growing sector in this field is known as “health optimization” has been especially noteworthy — a holistic effort that focuses on diverse areas such as hormone optimization, addressing sleep and fatigue issues and weight management.

Nuform is an example of a company that is taking the world of health optimization by storm thanks to its distinct focus and service model. As Dr. Christopher Elia, neurosurgeon and co-founder of Nuform explains, his company’s distinctive approach is enabling it to deliver meaningful outcomes for patients across the country.

1. Emphasis On Patient Education

“We are big believers in patient education,” Dr. Elia explains. “We strive to educate our patients on not just what they should be doing regarding diet, exercise and hormone treatments, but also the why. We believe that a more in-depth approach helps increase understanding and makes our patients more likely to follow through with their personalized plans.”

Indeed, research has consistently found that patient education can empower patients by helping them become more actively involved in their care plan, while also increasing their adherence to their plan and reducing anxiety related to any treatments. This typically improves health outcomes.

Romario Yousif, a physician’s assistant (PA) and co-founder of Nuform adds, “Our goal is to educate patients in a way that puts them back in the driver’s seat so they can make proper decisions for their overall health needs. We want to ensure they understand the root causes of any health issues they’re facing, as well as all their options so they can be truly empowered.”

2. Telemedicine First

Another noteworthy aspect of Nuform is that it operates primarily as a telemedicine company, licensed in the District of Columbia and every state in the United States, except for Rhode Island.

This allows the organization’s physicians to be available to its patients on a 24/7 basis, though in-person appointments are also available in select areas. The company partners with preferred labs located across the country to obtain lab tests from its patients.

With average wait times to see doctors for in-person visits reaching 26 days in 2024, the availability of telemedicine appointments makes Nuform a far more attractive option for patients eager to begin their health optimization journey.

3. Focus On ‘Optimal,’ Not Normal

For Dr. Elia and his team, the idea of “optimization” is key to what helps set Nuform apart in its field. In a typical healthcare setting, patients are generally informed whether their lab results are normal or unhealthy. Nuform goes more in-depth.

“Most of the time, patients will get lab results and be told that their values are normal. But in reality, saying that your lab values are normal doesn’t really tell us much,” he explains.

“Normal can cover a surprisingly large range. For us to feel our best, we want our levels to be optimal for our health and wellness goals. Having optimal levels is what helps us achieve peak performance across a broad range of health areas, such as strength, mood, energy and sex drive.”

To determine this, Nuform uses blood work to test over 90 different biomarkers with their new patients to fully evaluate their current values and then evaluate how these levels may be affecting the patient’s health optimization goals.

4. Personalized Protocols

Notably, testing 90-plus different biomarkers is not the first step that Nuform takes in developing a set of personalized health protocols for each of its patients. The focus on personalization begins before lab work is even scheduled, as patients fill out an online intake form to provide information on their health goals and overall well-being. Following the intake form submission, patients meet with one of the company’s health specialists to discuss their health goals prior to scheduling their lab visit.

“Personalization is so important to achieving successful health optimizations,” Dr. Elia says.

“Understanding a patient’s health goals and what issues they wish to address provides crucial context for us when we review their lab results. This helps us know which treatment options will work best for their individual needs so that our plan can be tailored to them, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. A guided, individualized treatment plan will always be more effective.”

5. Physician Owned and Operated

Finally, Dr. Elia feels that Nuform’s status as a physician owned and operated company gives it a unique perspective in the world of health optimization — a model that always puts the needs and goals of its patients first.

“We’re not focused on trying to sell a specific health product or generating revenue for an insurer,” he says. “Because we are physician owned and operated, we’re able to operate independently, focusing on providing pure, trusted, high-quality and safe treatment options. By actively staying up to date on emerging trends and treatment options, we’re able to provide our patients with the most effective and reliable treatments, while always adapting their care plan to their specific needs.”

An Optimal Approach to Health Optimization

Nuform’s distinct approach to health optimization for men and women represents a distinct shift in the market — a desire to not merely have “normal” or “acceptable” health, but to implement personalized strategies that lead to optimal health outcomes.

Based on the work Dr. Elia and his team have accomplished thus far, it is clear that this growing sector of the wellness industry will only become more influential in the years ahead.
