The Husband & Wife Law Team: Mark and Alexis Breyer

The Husband & Wife Law Team has built one of Arizona’s leading personal injury law firms by combining compassion, integrity, and expertise. Their purpose is to “thoughtfully guide people through adversity to their best possible outcome,” a philosophy reflected in their client success rate, community involvement, and award-winning workplace culture.
Mark and Alexis specialize in serious injury and wrongful death law claims. Mark has earned the additional title of Certified Specialist in Personal Injury and Wrongful Death, which only 1% of lawyers in the field have achieved. They met in law school, married, and started practicing personal injury law in Arizona in 1996. Since then, they have raised eight children and maintained a remarkable success rate. Additionally, Alexis has received multiple leadership awards for her excellence as a business leader, attorney, and community philanthropist.
Early Days Inspiration
From early on, Mark was drawn to the idea of standing up and fighting for those in need, competing with purpose, and performing in the courtroom. Trial work fascinated him long before he entered law school. He knew that one of the most direct paths to the courtroom was through personal injury law, where fighting for people who are hurt isn’t just a job; it’s a calling.
When Mark met Alexis, a bright and determined woman with a sharp legal mind and an entrepreneurial spirit that matched his own, they immediately formed a strong bond. Alexis had already spent four years working as a personal injury paralegal during her college years. Her experience and negotiation skills complemented Mark’s courtroom focus, laying the foundation for both their relationship and their future firm.
Challenges and Core Beliefs
However, starting a business together brought its challenges. The phone rang with requests for help with divorces, small business disputes, estate planning, and criminal defense. They faced a choice: take on various cases to keep the business running or stay committed to what they wanted to excel at. Ultimately, they chose to stay focused and become experts in their field. It wasn’t always easy, but it was the right decision. Together, they built a practice grounded in purpose, passion, and a strong commitment to helping those in need.
Another key distinction is their commitment to empowering the communities they serve. This is evident in their signature programs, such as those that recognize excellence among teachers, coaches, and healthcare workers, as well as initiatives that bring the community together to enjoy great local restaurants on the firm’s tab. They aim to provide their team members with opportunities to participate in cause-based events throughout the year.

Growing Pains
Early in the firm’s growth, Alexis and Mark were the only two attorneys. Mark focused solely on litigation and client intake, while Alexis managed pre-litigation and negotiations. However, as their caseload grew, thanks to referrals and some print advertising, they decided to hire a manager to help lead the team so the two could focus on being excellent lawyers. The experience offered valuable insight into the kind of leadership their growing firm required. “In hindsight, the reins were handed over without ensuring alignment in values or vision. The manager operated inconsistently with how we treat people, leading to the only time in the firm’s 30-year history when the company culture suffered,” they state.
The subsequent course correction was painful yet transformative, teaching the pair the importance of leadership. When they eventually restarted growing the firm, they did so with a strengthened focus on culture, hiring, and leadership.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout their careers, Mark and Alexis have earned numerous awards, including the following:
Mark Breyer: Certified Specialist in Personal Injury and Wrongful Death by the Arizona State Bar, Avvo (Superb Rated Attorney), Lexis-Nexis Martindale-Hubbell (High ratings in ethics and legal ability).
Alexis Breyer: Avvo (Superb Rated Attorney), Attorney & Practice Magazine (Top 10 Female Personal Injury Attorney in Arizona), North Valley Magazine (Best Attorneys in Phoenix).
In addition to these, the firm has been ranked among the Top Workplaces for four years running and has been recognized as a Great Place to Work for five consecutive years. All of this has helped the office earn an A+ rating from BBB.
Making Intentionality a Priority
Since the beginning, Mark and Alexis’ work as Arizona personal injury lawyers has been grounded in passion, relationships, and respect, and these qualities remain to this day. As such, their firm stands out because its foundation is built on purpose. They are committed to delivering exceptional service to their clients while cultivating a workplace culture that uplifts their team and inspires excellence. As they surmise, “Every decision we make is anchored in our core values, which keep us aligned and serve as a compass for each team member.”
