Charlie Woods receives special invite to elite junior golf tournament after first AJGA win
Eric J. Wallace- Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, won the Team TaylorMade Invitational junior golf tournament and has been invited to the Northeast Amateur.
- Woods' victory significantly improved his AJGA ranking, moving him to 14th from 609th.
- Woods' improved ranking may qualify him for The Junior PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
Charlie Woods' breakthrough victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational on May 28 is already opening doors to more of the United States' top junior golf tournaments.
Woods, a rising junior at Benjamin School and the son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, has received an invitation to play in the Northeast Amateur from June 18-21 at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island.
One of seven events on the Elite Amateur Golf Series, the Northeast Amateur was established as an annual junior golf tournament in 1962.
Its past winners include Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Luke Donald, David Duval and Nick Dunlap, who won the event in 2023 and turned pro with the PGA Tour in 2024.
Northeast Amateur co-chair Mick Hogan explained how Woods might "elevate" the Northeast Amateur should he accept the invitation.
"From a field standpoint, Charlie, look, great victory a couple weeks ago. Does his ranking really improve the strength of field? I wouldn't say it does in any sort of major way," Hogan said. "What it would do from a tournament perspective. It will certainly elevate things.
"He'll probably be arguably the biggest draw to come that week. We'll wait and see what happens if it does come through, it could be an unbelievable week for everybody because I think we'd have a lot of turn out. A lot of eyes on the event and not just on Charlie. Everyone else in the field. We'll see what happens."
Woods has yet to make a decision on his invitation according to the Rhode Island Golf Association's official X account.
Hogan went on to joke that Woods' participation in the tournament shouldn't affect operations too significantly barring one high-profile variable.
"As long as his father doesn't show up," Hogan laughed. "We haven't gotten that far in advance but if he does show up on his own, we'll do anything we can just like everybody else in the field to make this week special. We'll find out from him what he needs from us and take it from there."
Charlie Woods golf ranking

Woods soared to No. 14 in the latest edition of the American Junior Golf Association boys rankings, more than 595 spots better than his previous ranking of No. 609.
Woods earned his first career AJGA win on May 28 with a three-stroke victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort's Black Course in Bowling Green, Florida.
It was an individual breakthrough for Woods, whose previous best AJGA finish was a tie for 25th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in South Carolina in March.
Charlie Woods next tournament
Woods currently does not appear in any fields for upcoming AJGA tournaments.
However, Woods' new ranking means he will potentially qualify to play 2025 The Junior PLAYERS Championship at historic TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The field includes the top 58 boys in the Rolex AJGA Rankings as of July 8 as well a select group of international invitees and additional spots available at the tournament organizer's discretion.
