LSU football and LSU athletics are swimming in an ocean (or maybe a gulf?) of change.

Brian Kelly is out as head coach. Other administrative positions are in flux. In the middle of this sea of chaos, the Tigers are trying to find some stability. Tuesday evening, news broke that interim athletic director Verge Ausberry will become the permanent athletic director for the program. College Sports Wire provided context on this fluid situation before Ausberry's interim tag was lifted:

"On Tuesday, the university announced that it is hiring Wade Rousse as its next president. Rousse, who was previously the president at McNeese, replaces William F. Tate IV, who left to become the president at Rutgers over the summer.

"Amid a time of upheaval, it brings at least a bit of stability to LSU's operation as it begins its search for Brian Kelly's replacement after he was fired on Oct. 26. It's not the only leadership position the school is searching for, however, as it also needs a new athletics director after firing Scott Woodward."

New president? Check. Permanent athletic director? Check. Now we get to find out how Verge Ausberry conducts the process of selecting LSU's next head football coach. This had been a point of intrigue given Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry's explosive and controversial remarks about this head coaching search. Now, it would seem to be the case that Ausberry is driving the bus.

However, we still need to get a sense of which people and power brokers Ausberry trusts, which could influence the ultimate direction and outcome of LSU football's very big decision.
