UCLA's Megan Grant hits grand slam in 6-RBI showing to run rule South Carolina

Los Angeles is no stranger to Herculean nights at the plate, and it saw another off the bat of Megan Grant on Sunday, May 17 at the Los Angeles Regional of the NCAA softball tournament where No. 8 overall seed UCLA hosted hosted South Carolina.

Grant plated six runs, including four via a grand slam, in UCLA's 15-1 win by run rule over the Gamecocks that sent the Bruins to their third consecutive softball super regional appearance.

Grant, a two-sport athlete who was also part of UCLA's national championship in basketball this year, already has a historic season under her belt. She broke former Arizona Wildcats star Laura Espinoza's record of 37 home runs in the Big Ten Championship and has only added to her total, notching number 40 with her grand slam.

In a season that saw multiple players chasing Espinoza's record, Grant got hot at the time. She had four home runs in the Bruins' last five games before the tournament, and two more in the Los Angeles Regional.

Now, Grant will look ahead to UCF, which will travel to Los Angeles as the winner of the Tallahassee Regional by way of upsetting No. 9 Florida State. Will she continue to add to her record? And, more important, can the Bruins keep their bats scorching hot at the most critical time of the season? So far, the answer has been an emphatic yes. But the road only gets harder from here as UCLA chases its first title since 2019.
