Unlike many other players who follow their dad to whatever school they coach at, RJ Day decided to forge his own path.

RJ, the son of Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, announced his commitment to Northwestern on Sunday morning. He chose the Wildcats over Purdue and USF following an official visit.

According to 247Sports, RJ is ranked as a three-star prospect playing for St. Francis de Sales in Columbus. The site ranks him as the No. 92 quarterback and the No. 50 player out of Ohio for the 2027 class.

A three-year starter with the Stallions, Day has passed for over 1,000 yards in each season as a starter, totaling 5,714 yards and 54 touchdowns. Last season, he led the Stallions to a 9-3 record, throwing for a career-best 2,710 yards and 25 touchdowns, becoming the school's all-time passing leader.

His decision to commit to Northwestern comes just a few weeks after he picked up an offer from the Wildcats. They extended an offer to him on April 29 and he arrived on campus on May 8 for his official visit.

With his commitment, Northwestern now has five pledges in its 2027 class, with all being ranked as three-star prospects. The class ranks 49th in the country by 247Sports and sits at No. 14 in the Big Ten.

The father-son duo will square off almost immediately as Ohio State travels to Northwestern next season. Ryan Day is 3-0 all-time against the Wildcats, last beating the Big Ten opponent 31-7 in 2024.
