Cardinals' Matt Carpenter hits home run in sixth consecutive game

July 21, 2018, 10:24 p.m. ET

Matt Carpenter is on some kind of roll.

Cardinals first baseman Matt Carpenter, right, celebrates his three-run home run during the sixth inning against the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The St. Louis Cardinals infielder homered in both games of his team's doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Saturday, giving him a home run in six consecutive games. Carpenter is the first player in Cardinals history to homer in six games in a row during the same season.

Carpenter has now gone 11 for his last 20, with each of the 11 hits going for extra bases. Eight of those hits are home runs, the other three doubles.

During the Cardinals' 18-5 win on Friday, Carpenter became the second major-leaguer ever to go 5-for-5 with three home runs and two doubles in a game. He added seven RBI and four runs scored.
