What MLB teams have never won World Series? Brewers, Mariners could end droughts
Jon HoeflingToday is the first day when MLB fans get to see all four remaining teams in action. Game 2 of the ALCS is set for 5:03 p.m. ET today after Seattle took a 1-0 series lead. Meanwhile, Game 1 of the NLCS between the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers will take place at 8:08 p.m. ET.
The storylines behind these four remaining teams are obvious. The Dodgers are the perennial powerhouse that always has a shot at a title. They won the World Series a season ago and have the talent to carry them to another championship. However, despite all the talent they've had and bought for more than a decade now, they only have two recent World Series titles on their resume, one of which came during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, meaning many fans don't consider it legitimate.
The Toronto Blue Jays were never supposed to be here. After finishing the 2024 season with just 74 wins and in last place in the AL East, they were expected to be close to the basement again. Yet here they stand, the No. 1 seed in the American League just four wins away from a shot at an MLB title.
Those are great narratives for those two teams, but a World Series title would mean so much more for either the Milwaukee Brewers or Seattle Mariners. Both teams have never won the World Series. The Brewers have played for one in 1982, losing in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mariners have never even been to a World Series. In fact, this is just the fourth time in franchise history that they've reached the ALCS.
While neither the Brewers nor Mariners are betting favorites to win their respective series, there's a solid chance that we could see a franchise win its first-ever title by the end of the month. So, that begs the question, what other teams have never won a World Series?

- Seattle Mariners: 1995 ALCS - lost in six to Cleveland Indians (also lost 2000 ALCS in six to New York Yankees; lost 2001 ALCS in five to New York Yankees as well)
- Milwaukee Brewers: 1982 World Series - lost in seven to St. Louis Cardinals
- Colorado Rockies: 2007 World Series - swept by Boston Red Sox
- San Diego Padres: 1984 World Series - lost in five to Detroit Tigers (also got swept by Yankees in 1998 World Series)
- Tampa Bay Rays: 2020 World Series - lost in six to Los Angeles Dodgers (also lost in five to Phillies in 2008)
