Tyler Reddick matches Earnhardt with 5th win of 2026 NASCAR season
Tyler Reddick has done something that no driver since Dale Earnhardt in 1987 has accomplished: win five of the first nine races of a NASCAR Cup Series season.
Reddick rallied to win the AdventHealth 400 on Sunday, April 19 at Kansas Speedway, passing defending race winner Kyle Larson on the final turns of the final lap of overtime to capture his fifth victory of the 2026 season.
Reddick, who started from the pole, now adds Kansas to his wins at Darlington, Circuit of the Americas, Atlanta and the season-opening Daytona 500. He won from the pole in four of his five wins – all but Daytona – cementing the 23XI Racing driver as not only the best starter so far this season, but the best finisher as well.
"Man, these late race restarts get crazy," Reddick said in a post-race interviewe with Fox. "I obviously had a run on the 5 (Larson). I was shocked I was able to get to his inside there. (We had) an incredible SupplyHouse Toyota Camry all day long."
Reddick edged Larson's Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet by 0.118 seconds and is proving to be as clutch as co-team owner Michael Jordan, who was on hand at the speedway to celebrate with the No. 45 Toyota team.
Joe Gibbs Racing's Chase Briscoe finished third, Denny Hamlin, who co-owns 23XI Racing but drives for JGR finished fourth, and Bubba Wallace, the second 23XI driver finished fifth as Toyota took four of the top five positions.
Reddick became the fourth driver in NASCAR Cup Series history to win five of the first nine races in any season, joining three Hall of Famers: Earnhardt, Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough.
"Look, I’m racing against Denny. I really wanted to beat him because I know we’re going to talk a lot of trash a little bit later," Jordan joked after congratulating Reddick. "This kid is on fire. I don’t know if I can cool him down. He is unbelievable. Unbelievable last couple laps. I’m proud of the whole team.
"When you win, it’s always fun. Right now it’s fun for everybody at 23XI. Me being here and being able to see all the wins, I am so happy for the team. I just think we need to continually build on this, without a doubt."
Despite starting from the pole, the race seemed like it would be a battle between Larson, the defending Cup series champion, and Denny Hamlin, whose four wins at this 1.5-mile oval are the most in Cup Series history. Hamlin dominated Stage 1 after passing Reddick a few laps into the race, and Larson dominated Stage 2 after passing Hamlin on the first lap of the second segment.
But Reddick was never out of the picture, and he retook the lead from Hamlin on Lap 258 of 267.
As the race headed to overtime, it was Hamlin and Reddick on the front row for the restart. Hamlin jumped out to a quick lead, but Larson surged from third on his inside to pass them both and take the white flag. It seemed like the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports driver was on his way to a third consecutive victory in the Kansas spring race, until Reddick chased him down on the backstretch, before passing Larson between Turns 3 and 4 and holding on to take the checkered flag.
