Michael Jordan's game-worn, signed shoes from rookie season sell for $560,000 in auction

One of Michael Jordan's many nicknames is "His Airness." This specific pair of shoes can now be called "His Expensiveness."

A signed pair of Air Jordan 1's Jordan wore during his rookie season in 1984-85 was auctioned off by Sotheby's on Sunday for $560,000, The Action Network reported. The buyer's identity was not immediately known.

The ‘Chicago’ colorway design features red laces and a black Nike "swoosh" logo. The condition report on Sotheby's website describes the shoes as "good overall condition, consistent with signs of game wear."

The price sets a new record for a pair of sneakers sold. They were previously owned by shoe collector Jordy Geller.

Geller had owned the shoes since 2012 but parted with them amid the peak of hype for "The Last Dance," the documentary about Jordan and the Chicago Bulls dynasty of the 1990s. The season finale starts Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
