NBA playoff bracket, scores, schedule: 76ers win Game 7
Ellen J. HorrowThe first round of the 2026 NBA playoffs has reached its apex with three closeout games on Friday, May 1, but the first two contests of the night provided no closure and instead insured multiple Game 7s this weekend.
The Detroit Pistons, the top team in the Eastern Conference, staved off a shocking upset at the hands of the No. 8 seed Orlando Magic, with a huge second-half rally or an epic collapse by Orlando – depending on your perspective. The Magic were without star Franz Wagner, who missed his second consecutive game with a right calf strain.
The other matchup in the East pitted the No. 4 seed Cleveland Cavaliers against the No. 5 seed Toronto Raptors. The Cavaliers rallied to send the game to overtime, but the Raptors hit a miraculous 3-pointer with less than five seconds remaining to take the game and send the series back to Cleveland.
The final game of the night, though, officially wrapped up the first round in the Western Conference as the No. 4 seed Los Angeles Lakers rolled the No. 5 seed Houston Rockets.
The top two seeds in the Western Conference, the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder and the No. 2 seed San Antonio Spurs, advanced to the second round with little drama. The No. 6 seed Minnesota Timberwolves joined them after upsetting the No. 3 seed Denver Nuggets on Thursday night.
The No. 3 New York Knicks will face the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round after the Sixers defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 7 on Saturday, May 2.
