March Madness bracket predictions: Who gets last No. 1 seed, UConn or Florida?

Just over 24 hours from now, the Men's NCAA Tournament bracket will be released, signaling the official start to March Madness.
As always, there remain some questions for the NCAA Tournament selection committee to discuss and hash out before they submit the finalized bracket at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday. Among those questions is who will be seeing its name on the final 1-seed line: Connecticut or Florida.
It was a question that appeared to be answered heading into Saturday's slate of conference tournament games, but after Florida's unexpected loss to Vanderbilt in the SEC tournament semifinals in Nashville, it has reopened.
The Gators' loss to the Commodores is by no means a "bad loss," as Vanderbilt is top 15 in the NET rankings and is a projected 5-seed in USA TODAY Sports' latest bracket projections, but it ends a 12-game win streak for Todd Golden's squad that helped them get into the mix for the 1-seed (or a top-3 seed) after a rather discouraging non-conference schedule, which included a loss to the Huskies in the Jimmy V Classic back in December. It's just the third loss in the last 20 games for Florida since Jan. 3.
The Gators swapped with the Huskies in bracketology for the final 1-seed spot on Feb. 18 after UConn fell to Creighton (No. 82 in NET ranking) at home, the Huskies second loss in 12 days with the other being Round 1 against St. John's on Feb. 6 at Madison Square Garden.
UConn, which is vying for its third national championship in the last four years under Dan Hurley, failed to put the discussion to bed, getting shellacked in the Big East tournament championship game against No. 13 St. John's 72-52. Since the Huskies were unable to get a win against Rick Pitino and the Red Storm on Saturday, the committee could award Hurley's squad the 1-seed because of the head-to-head tiebreaker that they own.
ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi said on ESPN following Florida's loss to Vanderbilt that he thinks the committee will still keep the Gators on the 1-seed despite their day-early exit from the SEC tournament because of "their body of work."
"Florida was the outright champion of a far stronger league. UConn finished second in a far weaker league, and I know the UConn and Big East people won't want to hear that, but I fully expect Florida is going to be the No. 1 team in the South Region," Lunardi said. "The committee over the years, for all the swings and arrows they take, they're very good at not overreacting to a single result. ... I think they are going to keep Florida right where they are."
