Browning Nagle, former Louisville football star and NFL QB, dies at 57
Alexis CubitFormer Louisville football and NFL quarterback Browning Nagle has died, the university announced on Friday in a social media post.
Nagle, who played quarterback for the Cardinals from 1989-1991, was 57 years old.
"We are saddened by the passing of Browning Nagle, former Fiesta Bowl MVP quarterback and Louisville great," the X post from the Louisville football account said. "His leadership on the field and passion for the game left a lasting mark on our program. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and teammates during this difficult time."
Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm, who was Nagle's backup, also expressed his condolences.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with #7 Browning Nagle, his wife Michelle, and his entire family today," he wrote on social media. "A true Cardinal great! We will all miss him very much. Love you buddy!"

Nagle, who transferred to Louisville from West Virginia, led the Cardinals to a 34-7 win over Alabama in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl. The Florida native finished his college career with 4,653 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. He was selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
Nagle spent five years in the NFL, which included a stop with the Indianapolis Colts (1994) and Atlanta Falcons (1996).
He finished his NFL career with 2,489 passing yards and eight touchdown passes.
